1. First, think of Composition when you see something that attract your attention. Look where is the light coming from, where is the shadow and as for the background, make sure it is promoting your subject.
2. Then check your Color. Color is affected by your White Balance. Make sure what you see as white is also white in your first test shot. Test shot is also called "chimping".
3. Next is your Contrast. Good contrast comes from good or correct metering. If your metering is wrong or bad, you either have over exposure or under exposure. A good contrast is something like what you are seeing. Neither too dark nor too bright.
4. Clarity is defined by your shutter speed. If your shutter speed is too high, you would lose out to aperture and ISO. If your shutter speed is too low, you might get blurry works. So, figure out the best shutter speed to give you the best aperture and ISO, suitable for the work you are creating.
5. Communication is what you want to say or communicate to us. You must know something about what you are shooting at. The more you know about your subject, the more you can write and tell us about it. And usually...the more you know about your subject, the better you are representing it in your photography work.
If you follow this guideline, you are on your way to better photography and beside feeling great creating better works, you are starting to have better fun.
