Do You want to Learn Everything & Most Things about Digital Workflows?

If you want to learn at your own pace from Video Lessons about almost any software from Photoshop to Lightroom to Bridge to Kuler to Indesign to Illustrator to mySQL to almost anything digital........., I highly reccomend that you take a one month premium membership at WWW.LYNDA.COM .
It cost less than US$30 for a one month subscription, and you can access, and view literally thousands of video based learning programs.
You can check it out before paying for membership. If I am not mistaken you can usually trial view the first 3 or 4 lessons FOC. But join as a premium member. You'll never regret it.

As a premium subscribing member you are allowed to download the exercise files so that you can follow the streaming lessons on your own copy of the software you are trying to learn. If you have a slow internet connection, the viewing experience can be extremely unpleasant and you might be forced to download the streaming videos to your hard disk so that you can watch it without any interruptions from a slow internet connection.

I'm not sure as a paying subscriber whether it is legal for you to download the videos to your HDD for your own personal viewing and re-viewing at your leisure, but I will show you how to do it if you do need to do it because of your slow internet connection. Be warned however, this could be illegal and you do so entirely at your own risk. Be warned also that you shouldnever ever redistribute any videos that you may have purchased. That is completely illegal and you will be courting trouble with the law if you do so. In this tutorial, I am simply showing you how to download any streaming videos off the internet if watching the streaming video is unsatisfactory because of your slow internet connection.

So how do you download streaming video?

To download streaming videos from the internet I find that the Mozilla Firefox browser is best. You will need to download and install a suitable downloader plugin first. Try THIS VIDEO DOWNLOADER plugin. I found that it is one of the most efficient. You need only two clicks to download any streaming video. Here's the website where you can download the plug in.

After installing the plug in, you will need to configure and set a download folder where you want the videos to be stored. You do this by right clicking the Video Downloader icon in your Browser menubar, and then when the choices window opens, select the preferences and use it to specify your down load location.

You will need to install Apple Quicktime Viewer into your PC/Mac in order to watch the videos.

When you've done all that, click on any streaming video link, and when the video opens, simply click on the Video Downloader plugin at the bottom right hand corner of the Quicktime viewer window. The video will be automatically downloaded and stored on your hard disk.

Now here's a tip for conveniently downloading a series of streaming videos with the downloader plug in..

Immediately after you see that the download process for the first video clip has started, close the Quicktime window and then click on the next video link to down load another segment, and all downloads will continue in the background. You can do the same for up to 10 video segments at a time depending on your PC memory and processor speed.

In order to check the progress of your video downloads, click on the Tools/Downloads menu in your browser, and a window like below should open to show you the progress of all downloads. Sometimes your browser will have a mind of its own and will store the downloaded videos in all sorts of funny places. If you dont know where the videos were stored by your browser, just right click on any of the files in the Download window and you will be directed or taken to the download folder chosen by your download plug in.

I need to stress once again that I am not sure whether it is legal to download any streaming video that you have paid to watch. You will have to check and verify that for yourself. If you find that it is not allowed, please dont do it. In any case, if you do download any videos that you have paid for, you must never redistribute it to anybody. Doing that is definitely against the law and if you are caught, you may be persecuted. Our Malaysian Slowmyx connection is extremely slow, and I'm only sharing this technique so that you can have a more pleasurable learning experience. The Learning Videos at Lynda.com are extremely good and I feel it is worth it to even take up a year's subscription so that you can watch the videos leisurely on line, without having to bother downloading them.

The gift of knowledge is forever.

Happy Learning.
