Comparison of Hasselblad Xpan and Xpan II

I had came across many website about whats the different between Hasselblad xpan and xpan II, i'm hereby doing a very quick yet simple comparison of both camera

Intro of Hasselblad Xpan
I was lucky to have a chance to hold both camera on the same time. Ok some story of this camera, its Origin from Fuji who named as TX, TX are same to Xpan while TX-2 is Xpan II. No matter Fuji or Hasselblad, all are made in JAPAN only ! The unique of this hasselblad xpan is that you can take an actual panoramic photo, unlike other Horizon, xpan produce a strait line instead of curve on corner, special thing is that you can switch between panoramic mode to normal 35x24 mode without need to waste any film space, how ? interesting... the film itself will rewind back when u switch between this two mode.

Hasselblad have two version 1 and 2, and a set of 3 lenses which is 30mm, 45mm (kit), and 90mm lens. Many would ask if the 45mm is consider WIDE in pano ? the answer is YES and NO. Yes when you are using pano mode while no when you are using normal mode. below here the example of how does it works.

in normal 45mm frame, you are actually getting the same 45mm focal in 135mm format, while in pano mode, you'll get longer and wider. so some may still asking 45mm izzit wide ? haha.. judge urself, but 30mm for Xpan is seriously wide.. too wide and too expensive !

Physical design and different

Comparing Xpan and Xpan II, one thing i would say is

xpan = more physical button around the camera
xpan 2 = most of function are fine tune thru LCD

here some pix of xpan and xpan II design

ISO dail

xpan have a ISO button located on the hand grip, it allow you to change the film ISO, good thing is you can do a dedicated choice of speed for the film you wanted. example, some ppl may expose their velvia 50 rated at ISO40, instead of using EV compo, you can easily change the ISO to 40 on the indicator there

top panel

like i mention earlier, xpan have more physical bottom where there is a EV composition located on the switch button. in +2/-2 with 0.5EV difference. Where xpan II have to adjust thru the LCD panel behind

LCD

the LCD of Xpan 2 is bigger and more info displayed compare to Xpan such shutter speed value.

Lens hood

the are two version of lens hood, the newer version which comes together with xpanII have a lock release button where Xpan only a standard turn and release style

Overall Comparison

In major:
physically design are different between Xpan and XpanII, where Xpan have more physical button while XpanII are using LCD to control.

In viewfinder :
Xpan = bright and clear, no shutter speed indicator

XpanII = slightly darker due to blue tint design, not sure the useful of it but thats the diff. Plus it has a shutter speed indicator display in viewfinder which is a very useful feature

Lens:
in Xpan range all lenses are same design and same spec and no change till now. 30mm lens will comes with an external finder to see wider.

Body spec :
- weight wise Xpan II are 15gram more heavier than xpan.

- In terms of longest shutter speend, Xpan II can shoot up to 540 second where Xpan only able to shoot at 270 second in BULB mode MAX.

- One of major thing which is Xpan have no Multiple exposure, while Xpan II can shoot up to 9 multi exposure.

Film transporting
Xpan = Non-programmable film rewind option (fully rewind or leave film header), 3fps on normal frame and 2 fps on pano mode (faster)
xpan II = Programmable film rewind option (both), 1.2 fps on normal mode, 0.9 fps on pano mode (slower)

Self timer
Xpan = 10 second
xpan II = 2 and 10 second

Conclusion
Thanks for viewing, hope international Xpan viewer may get the point of view and understand more of the difference btw Xpan and Xpan 2. i dun do comparison on which model is better coz each of version having their strong and weak point too

~ END ~
